Novel Esterification Catalyst

Our R&D laboratory led by author has shown a very positive progress in development and synthesizing of a novel esterification catalyst. This solid catalyst can be applied as slurry and separated out from product effluent by simple decantation or filtration. It can also be made immobilized in a fixed bed reactor. This is a non-corrosive, recoverable and reusable catalyst aimed to replace sulfuric acid as esterification catalyst. Sulfuric acid is very corrosive (after reaction water is produced) and create problem with its disposal. The novel catalyst will become a mascot in biodiesel production from PFAD feedstock or any other high FFA content oil feedstocks including used cooking oil, lard, animal fats, fish oils, etc.
